Registered Disability Savings Plans (RDSP)

Tax-sheltered disability savings, with a government boost.

With generous grants and bonds, tax-deferred growth, and flexible contribution options, a Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) is more than a savings plan - it's a pathway to financial independence. An RDSP is a powerful, government-supported investment tool designed to help people with disabilities and their families save for long-term financial well-being.

Whether you're just learning about RDSPs or ready to open one today, our team is here to guide you every step of the way.

Plan for the Future with Confidence

Who qualifies for an RDSP?

  • Can be opened by a person younger than age 59 who qualifies for the Disability Tax Credit
  • Must be a Canadian resident with a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and a current Canadian tax filing record

How do you set up an RDSP?

  • Applications can be made to a financial institution registered with the government to open plans
  • Plan holder will generally be a parent or guardian if the beneficiary is a minor
  • An adult beneficiary must be their own holder (with certain exceptions)

How much can you contribute to an RDSP?

  • The lifetime contribution limit is $200,000
  • There is no annual limit to contributions, however, there are annual limits to the amount of government assistance
  • Contributions are after-tax, meaning there is no tax deduction when contributing
  • While in the plan, there is no tax on income earned on either personal or government contributions
  • If the beneficiary was eligible for an RDSP in years prior to opening the plan, a one-time catch-up of up to $10,000 is available for unclaimed bond amounts from the previous 10 years

Additional Government Assistance

Canada Disability Savings Bond (CDSB)

  • CDSB makes annual payments regardless of personal contributions
  • Can be up to $1,000 annually
  • Lifetime limit of $20,000
  • Amounts are based on the beneficiary's family income

Canada Disability Savings Grant (CDSG)
